The Lead Lifeguard is responsible for overseeing all aquatic safety operations while supervising members, guests, and lifeguard staff in and around the swimming facilities. This role ensures the consistent implementation of water safety policies and procedures, maintains a high standard of vigilance, and provides leadership, guidance, and support to the lifeguard team. The Lead Lifeguard must be prepared to respond quickly and effectively in emergencies while promoting a safe, professional, and service-oriented environment. Physical fitness, strong swimming ability, and the capacity to assist swimmers in distress are essential.
Pay: $17.50 per hour, must have availability to work morning, afternoon, evenings, weekends and holiday. This is a seasonal full-time role.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Supervise and monitor swimmers and pool areas to ensure the highest level of safety at all times.
- Lead, direct, and support lifeguard staff during assigned shifts, ensuring proper coverage and rotation.
- Enforce all pool rules and regulations in a consistent and professional manner.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for aquatic emergencies and coordinate response efforts.
- Administer first aid and emergency care as needed, including CPR/AED when required.
- Conduct routine safety inspections of pool areas, equipment, and rescue gear.
- Assist in training, mentoring, and evaluating lifeguard staff to ensure readiness and compliance with safety standards.
- Participate in scheduling, shift assignments, and daily operational planning.
- Maintain accurate incident reports and documentation of all safety-related matters.
- Monitor and maintain knowledge of pool chemistry, safety protocols, and risk management procedures.
- Ensure all rescue and surveillance techniques align with approved standards, including those of the American Red Cross.
- Promote a positive, professional environment while delivering excellent member and guest service.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Advanced knowledge of pool safety, rescue techniques, CPR/AED, and bloodborne pathogen protocols.
- Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to guide and motivate staff.
- Ability to remain calm, make quick decisions, and lead effectively in high-pressure situations.
- Excellent observational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Credentials & Experience
- Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification required.
- American Red Cross First Aid and CPR/AED Certification required.
- Minimum of 5 years of lifeguarding experience required (mandatory); prior leadership or supervisory experience is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
This role requires the ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and reach for extended periods of time. The position may involve lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
